Summary and Review of Love Lies

What’s up Nerds!

It’s a review day! Let’s look at one of my old favorite webcomics called Love Lies.

Disclaimer: There will be spoilers

This webcomic I have read many times because it is very satisfying. The good girl gets the relationship with the guy and the villain gets their just desserts. To begin we meet a young girl name Hyojung who’s working as an assistant manager to her cousin Yeonkyung. Yeonkyung is a budding actress trying to make her way on the scene by doing a new show with super famous and good looking actor Seungyoon.

Hyojung is an orphan whose parents died in a terrible car crash. Instead of taking in their niece with love and care they took all of her inheritance and manipulated her into taking care of Yeonkyung with her acting career. Yeonkyung manipulates Hyojung threatening to sell her mother’s last painting called La Felicita. Hyojung just wants to live a normal life, instead of having to do the bidding of her cousin.

Yeonkyung has now set her eyes on Seungyoon. She cooks up a scandal to try to get him connected to her. So because she doesn’t want to do her own bidding she blackmails Hyojung into following him to find out what he likes and what he does with his time. Seungyoon notices Hyojung ealrker when she was running late after gathering all the coffee and sponsor items for Yeonkyung. He becomes more interested when he sees that Hyojung trying her best to study him in secret. As Yeonkyung plans goes underway she makes Hyojung find out Seungyoon’s hotel room number. Hyojung tries but fails miserably and ends up drinking with Seungyoon. He plans a scandal of his own once he realizes that Yeonkyung has set Hyogung to spy of him. This in turn sets off all kinds of events for Hyojung.

Hyojung is my favorite type of female protagonist because she doesn’t fall the male protagonist first, she tries her best to stand up for herself against her cousin, and she is true to herself(plus funny!). Despite all the hardships and manipulating at Yeonkyung’s hands, Hyojung still manages to pull through. She also had some help from her Seungyoon. This webcomic was great in that the Seungyoon the male lead who is typically portrayed at being unaware oft he villainy afoot, was the one pulling the strings behind the scenes. It’ s not common to have the male lead lead the charge as the villian in the story. It was refreshing to see the male lead protect the female lead even though it’s not clear if he loved her at this point or not.

The vindication for Hyojung comes swiftly and quickly as the fail of Yeonkyung intensifies. Yeonkyung tires even faking her own peanut allergy and her own stalker. The there’s that hidden camera show (I’m not going to spoil this but you have to promises that you’ll read it!) that ultimately sills her deal. She loses her contracts and has to lay low, but of course she doesn’t do that. She has to do one more trick to try to get her reputation back up. She goes and tries to beg Hyojung to change her mind and help her get out of this terrible hole she’s dug herself.

Once Yeonkyung has gotten her just desserts there’s no way to help her. Hyojusng and Seungyoon continue in their happily ever after.

Come back tomorrow for part 2 the analysis and review! Keep nerding out!
