Marry My Husband Review

What’s up Nerds!

I’m back with another Webtoon review! This is the very popular Marry My Husband created by studio LICO.

Disclaimer: Some slight spoilers

Jiwon is at the end of her life due to cancer. She wants to go to her husband Minhwan, but he’s been avoiding her in her time of need. She leaves the hospital without being discharged and heads back home only to find her husband and best friend Sumin in bed together. Jiwon is devastated. She vows to expose them both for their lying and cheating. But as she makes this declaration, Minhwan loses his temper and slaps her. She falls injuring her head and dying. Or so she though! As she awakes she realizes she’s gone back in time 10 years before marrying Minhwan, before everything.

This is one of the best reincarnation/revenge stories I’ve read. Jiwon who at our first meeting of her seems demure and weak, turns into a confident, strategic, and loyal friend. She is a great female lead who decides to not let anyone take advantage of her again. She knows this time she has is a gift and refuses to let the people who destroyed her happiness the first time, ruin it again. She uses her past memories to help her alter her future, stealing the luck of Minhwan and Sumin.

Jiwon also uses her past memories to help those around her. I thought it was a great addition to the story to show her developing true friendship with Ms. Yang and Huiyeon. Due to her memories she’s able to help them with various projects and interactions at work. She helps Ms. Yang with her project and she helps Huiyeon keep her idea from being stolen from one of the higher ups. It was great to see that while she may have been getting her revenge, she made the conscious decision to be open for friendship. Now for romance……

One aspect of Jiwon’s personality that I really enjoyed reading as it was unveiled is her attention to details. All the minor details that someone might miss, Jiwon would take the time to review them before making her next step in her revenge plan. As she pushes Minhwan and Sumin together it seems like she’s completely obsessed with making sure her revenge plan goes through. So much so that she neglects her own budding feelings for Jihyeok Yu. I won’t get into how he plays a major part in the reincarnation but just know he is the best. As I was reading I wanted Jiwon to take the time to enjoy her new feelings for Jihyeok and to finally give herself some time to be free of all the haunting memories of her past life. She eventually gets there, and while it takes longer than I would have liked, it makes the final confession of love worth the wait.

Now for the antagonists. Minhwan and Sumin. I won’t spoil what eventually happens to both of them because I could not have predicted such an ending. However what I will say is that both of them play their roles extremely well. I mean I know we’re not supposed to like them, but there is not even a shred of empathy left for those two. All of the empathy and sympathy is torn up and let go to fly away in the wind. There’s no redeeming qualities for either of them. You do get to see more of Sumin’s backstory but it’s not enough to make me want to even give her pity. If you’ve ever read Iris: The Lady and Her Smartphone, Sumin is Nera and Iris is Jiwon. Very similar relationship/friendship and very similar endings. You will be satisfied as justice will be served for all of Jiwon’s pain she had to endure silently and alone.

This is a great series and it is well written. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and you’ll have no problem binging this webtoon. Now I will say there are some darker moments in this webtoon so it’s definitely an 18+. Also I wouldn’t recommend reading this if you’re going through any kind of emotional trauma or if you’re on a journey of healing. Webtoons also does a great job giving proper warnings about abuse so no one will go in blind, but still just be aware of where you are mentally before reading. There’s way more love in it than dark but it’s still good to be aware of what you’re getting into. For the story overall and characters I give it a full 5 Nerd Light stars.

That’s the review for today so I hope you guys enjoyed it! We’re halfway through #NowistheTime and I hope everyone is out there reaching their goals and starting on their dreams. See you guys tomorrow and keep nerding out!
