What’s up Nerds!
This week’s theme has been mobile game reviews and I have another great one for you! This game is for my Nerds who love puzzles, strategy, and logic games. This game was made by If you’d like to check out another one of my mobile game reviews you can check it out right here. Let’s get into the review!
Graphics
The art style of IQDungeon is reminiscent of Adventure Time. It’s simple 2D design with clean lines but it’s pleasant. I really enjoy the muted color scheme the developers chose. It makes the game feel like it’s a step away from being a cozy adventure puzzle game. For a mobile game, it the graphics are weird or off it helps me make a quick decision to uninstall. IQDungeon however, has kept me entertained even with it’s simple 2D style.
Story
For a free mobile game, IQDungeon has plenty of story to keep you entertained and hooked. You begin the game as a new knight named Abel as he begins his adventure. The levels at the start of the game are, as expected, easy. You are introduced to the evil goblins as you make your way to your first dungeon where you find a lost princess. As you save her and make your way back to the kingdom, you find out the King is missing! Secrets start to unfold and you have to save the Princess again! As you progress through the different puzzling levels, you are introduce to Patrick the Archer and Gordon the Wizard. These allies and more will help Abel on his quest to save the Princess and vanquish the evil for good! This story is well developed and I love how it makes you want to finish the story, not only for the puzzles to see if you can save the world.
Game Mechanics
While most puzzle or strategy games can be straightforward in the path it wants you to to, IQDungeon does a great job of allowing you the freedom to choose. Now that isn’t to say there aren’t logic puzzles that can only be solved one way. What the game does do quite well is include many levels where there can be multiple ways to get to the answer. There’s a gauge at the top of the screen that indicates whether the level is more creative or logical. Sometimes to complete the level you might have to change the perspective to see the whole picture. Other times you might have to move around objects that appear to just be apart of the background. There have been many times where I’ve had to move a few clouds to get to the answer. You might look silly shaking or tilting your phone, but man it’s so satisfying to figure out what was needed to solved the puzzle.
Time Played
I have had this game for over a year. I don’t know about you guys but mobile games don’t last that long on my phone. At most some mobile games have lasted a couple of months. But IQDungeons is built different! Even when I’ve played all the levels and I’m waiting for an update, I am actively checking for new levels. I’ll leave it alone for like a week or so to come back and see if there are any new updates. There’s nothing more exciting then coming back and seeing new levels added to your favorite game.
Final Thoughts
I love IQDungeon. It is a top tier mobile game that has so much in it for free! You have a clean 2D art style, enjoyable but challenging puzzles, and a story you can’t help but follow along with our heroes. Along with all of that the music is well done and adds an element of suspense, humor and relief. I definitely recommend IQDungeon and it gets a full 5 out of 5 Nerd Light Stars.
That’s all from me today and I hope to see you tomorrow! Keep nerding out!
