Binge-worthy Anime During the #Quarantine on Netflix

Over the last two weeks we have been cooped up in our houses trying to stay away from that #ronavirus. While some people are going crazy being stuck in the house for so long, others are hunkering down and hoarding ALL OF THE TOILET TISSUE. But I digress. If you’re going to be inside anyway, you might as well binge watch these awesome anime shows. I got 9 anime shows you can binge right now on Netflix. Now you need to know, you can start a lot of these on Netflix, but if you want the entire series you’ll need to move to a platform like Crunchyroll or Funimation.

I also know that people have different interests so I have some anime that fall in the comedy, shonen(action), horror, and drama genres! Let’s get into this list

Comedy

The Disasterous Life of Saiki K

Watch The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K. Episodes Sub & Dub | Comedy ...

This anime is a favorite! It centers around a high schooler named Saiki who has psychic powers. It is kinda like a slice of life plus comedy as we just get to go along with Saiki and his friends in school. Most of the time Saiki is unwilling making friends and saving the day. But the best part is his deadpan commentary on his life and the people around him.

Aggretsuko

This slice of life comedy is about a little red panda and her life working at an accounting firm. Her name is Retsuko and we get to see her navigate through working in a corporate office and dealing with her romantic life. All while headbanging to her favorite metal song. This is a fun one to watch as it’s so easy to relate to Retsuko especially if you’ve graduated and in the working field.

Action/Adventure/Shonen

Naruto

Naruto (TV Series 2002–2007) - IMDb

This is one of the most popular anime out there. It centers around an orphan named Naruto and his quest to become Hokage (which is like a chief) of the Hidden Leaf Village which is a village of ninjas. Naruto gets stronger and gains friends with his ninja way. He’s a little annoying at first, but you can’t help but feel for him as he navigates his life mostly on his own. All nine seasons are on Netflix, so you can binge to your heart’s content.

Hunter x Hunter

Hunter x Hunter (TV Series 2011–2014) - IMDb

This show is on many people’s top 10 list for anime. It has everything from memorable characters to unforgettable fights. Gon, the protagonist, has always wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a Hunter. We get to see him and his friends, Killua, Leorio and Kurapika, go through the trials to earn their Hunter licenses. Gon gets one step closer to seeing his father. I recently finished this show and it is definitely in my Top 5 favorite animes. You can also check out my character spotlight all about Killua here.

Bleach

Bleach (TV) - Anime News Network

You should already know why Bleach is on this list! What better way to spend your #quarantine life than catching up on Bleach???! You can watch the first 3 seasons on Netflix right now, and on April 21st seasons 4 and 5 will be up. I’m not going to go into a lot of detail with Bleach since you can read about it here, but I will say you are seriously missing out if you don’t catch up on all the episodes before it comes back in 2021.

One Punch Man

VIZ | The Official Website for One-Punch Man

One Punch Man has its fans and it haters. But the first season on Netflix is worth the watch. Not because it’s only 11 episodes, and not because it is a satire anime poking fun at the genre of shonen. No,you should watch this anime solely because of the animation. Madhouse is the studio that did the production and let me tell you it is a masterpiece. The fights are just pure artistry and that’s enough. The story is great too as it follows Saitama who is probably the strongest person in the galaxy. There’s plenty of folks who want to put Saitama against shonen powerhouses like Goku, all because he can end a fight with just one punch. Hence the name One Punch Man. It’s another fun watch that will pass the time.

Attack on Titan

Alright now we’ve got ourselves a serious one. Attack on Titan is NOT for the squeamish or the faint of heart. Go back and watch Aggretsuko or Saiki. This is only for the people who can stomach a post-apocalyptic world. In this world, humans are living within a territory to protect them against the gigantic man-eating Titans. Specifically we center around Eren Jaeger who survives a Titan attack after his mother is killed. Eren along with his adoptive sister Mikasa and his best friend Armin, join the Scouts. There mission is to defeat the Titans attacking the city while also gathering evidence to learn more about them. Little did Eren know, he and this key to his father’s basement will help unlock the secrets of the titans. Man, this anime right here is crazy. Like crazy good. This anime has my all-time favorite reveal and I was genuinely shocked at the information. And no I’m not talking about the reveal in season 1. True fans know! Don’t watch this if you are the scared type, seriously, you’ve been warned!

Drama

Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day

Ano hi mita hana no namae o bokutachi wa mada shiranai. (TV Series ...

This was an anime series I stumbled upon while crusing through Netflix trying to find something to watch. Jinta is visited by his childhood friend who wants him to reunite their old gang of friends one final time. That’s all I want to give because I want you to be just invested as I was watching it for the first time. This anime is a representation of loss, grief, acceptance and moving on. And of happiness. I have to do a review on this one because there’s so much to unpack. You won’t be sorry for watching this though.

A Silent Voice (Movie)

A Silent Voice

Much like Anohana, this was another anime movie that was found while browsing through Netflix. This was kinda a sad one at first but it gets better. I would say if you like dramas, this is the movie for you. It’s about a boy who reaches out to a girl he used to bully to make things right. This one just might make you cry. I know I did. It’s wholesome and allows you to experience empathy for the young girl and her bully. This is probably one of my favorite anime movies to date.

Honorable Mentions

I didn’t put every one of my picks on this list because it would have been too long. But here are some of my honorable mentions you should check out too:

Fairy Tail

Ultramarine Magmell

Death Note

Hi-Score Girl

Sword Art Online

Inuyasha

I hope this list can help you the next time you’re sitting in front of your TV or your laptop or your tablet and you just don’t know what to watch. Trust me, there’s an anime out there for everyone you just gotta be open to the storytelling. Although we are spending this time a part from one another, now is the best time to connect through mediums we wouldn’t normally connect through. This blog was to start conversations and connections. We’re more alike than we think and I just want to showcase that through video games and anime. So let me know which anime you decide to watch. Leave a comment here or on Instagram @ the_nerdlight. Peace!
