The Big 3: Thriller/Suspense Edition

What’s up! Today’s Big 3 is all about the most popular Thriller or Suspenseful anime show. Note that some of these shows may also fall into the shonen category, but they can also be seen as a thriller or suspenseful.

First up on the list is Tokyo Ghoul. I had always heard about Tokyo Ghoul but never really gave it any thought to watch. But when learned about the premise of the story, ghouls and humans living in a world of killing and suspense I had to check it out. Ken Kaneki is a tragic protagonist who enters into the ghoul world unexpectedly. After this turn of events we get to see him try to cope with this new lifestyle. Day after day is a challenge with new enemies and powers. Tokyo Ghoul was a thrilling ride from beginning to end (well at least season 1, the other seasons are up to debate). The way the story moves and the psychological trips are more than worthy of a Big 3 spot.

Coming up for number 2 is Death Note. Death Note was one of the first anime I watched from beginning to end on Toonami. If this isn’t a thriller anime, I don’t know what is. Death Note gets into this Big 3 because you can’t name a psychological thriller without Death Note. Light Yagami is an amazing character that makes you want him to win and lose all at the same time. He finds a notebook with the power to take away someone’s life. It also makes you question justice and who has the right to rule over it. This show has so many twists and turns, and it really makes you think about your own morals. Death Note is one of those shows you know you wouldn’t want to live in, but you can’t stop watching.

Last but certainly not least my favorite pick for this edition of the Big 3 is Attack on Titan. Attack on Titan is the anime that is the literally definition of thriller. Eren Yaeger is our main protagonist who has sworn revenge against the Titans who have run amok killing humans for almost no reason. You watch an episode and there’s literally no guarantee you’ll see character in the next episode. This keeps you on the edge of your seat, guessing at the next events that take place. The Titans have a role that has a deep history with the humans of this world. Again, definitely another world you wouldn’t want to live in. The emotions are always on high during any episode. Even when Eren and the gang have a relaxing moment you just know something or someone is coming to shatter that illusion. This anime is such a great addition to the anime genre that it will definitely be going down in history as one of the greats.

Those are my picks for the Big 3: Thriller/ Suspense addition. We have one more set tomorrow before we say goodbye to #nowsthetimenov! See you tomorrow, peace!
