The term anime didn’t show up in my vocabulary until I was in high school. Little did I know, I was already watching anime from when I was a teeny tiny child, I just didn’t know it! So here are my top picks for childhood shows I didn’t know where anime.
- Sailor Moon.
Okay this was one of my favorite shows I would watch on Saturday mornings. I can’t tell you how many times my mom would be doing my hair (you know braiding it in plats or twists with those bubble barrettes) and I would be watching Sailor Moon.
Not only did I love the characters (my favorite Sailor Guardian was Mars!) and of course the awesome transformations, but I had a huge crush on Tuxedo Mask. He was the McDreamy before McDreamy existed. But yeah I didn’t realize it was an anime until waaay later in life. #allthenostalgicfeels
2. Digimon
Di-gi-mon Di-gi-tal monsters Di-gi-mon are the champ-ions!
When it comes to rivalries there were none more important than if you were team #Pokemon or team #Digimon. And I was team #Digimon all the way. I mean how could you not love Tai and Agumon? My favorite characters would have to be Matt and Gabumon because his champion form Garurumon is still one of the coolest on the show, though Greymon is a very close second. Even though I play Pokemon Go now, Digimon will always be my team.
3. Inuyasha
Now this was probably my first anime I watched on a consistent basis. I LOVED Inuyasha. I loved him and the love triangle he had with Kagome and Kikiyo. Also the hate-hate relationship he had with his half brother Sesshomaru. I loved Miroku, Sango and Shippo. Man there was so much drama in this anime! So sometimes I had to wake up early to get ready for school and I would watch this in the morning. I had no idea what an anime was, but the conflict between Inuyasha and Naratu was too enticing to stay away. Not to mention every girl was rooting for Kagome and Inuyasha’s kiss. Inuyasha will always be a #classic in my book.

See you!
I also didn’t really get that Sailor Moon or Astro Boy and the like were anime. To me they were just great shows I loved as a kid and it wasn’t until I got older and started wanting to find other shows similar that I realised just what they were and just how much anime actually existed. Really glad that I did go looking for more though.
Thanks for commenting! Yea I felt the same way. I loved the shows and their stories and it’s crazy to think of how much anime exists out there now.
Sailor Moon was definitely my favorite anime before I knew what an “anime” was. I have an affinity towards any show that has a core team of heroes with different personality types and strengths. Sailor Moon was in my top line up of morning shows to watch before heading to school. Sailor Venus was definitely the coolest in my book!
