What’s up guys! Level_Z0r0 here and I have a confession to make.
You ready for it? Here we go…
I’m am currently subscribed to over 50 different webtoons comics. Yes, I know. I realized this maaaaaaaayyy seem like a bit of a problem, but trust me I have a logical explanation! But before we talk about my obsession love for the comics, let’s talk about why Webtoons is such an amazing platform.
Webtoons is an app that writers, artists, and illustrators can come together to tell their stories through web comics. There is a Featured section where certain stories are picked to be promoted on the main Webtoons page. The other section is Canvas. Canvas is where new up and coming artists and writers put their work. There are various categories so there is probably a story for everyone. You just gotta do a little bit of searching.
I fell in love with Webtoons because of their easy interface. There are some other web comic apps, but I would say that Webtoons is the best. I think the stories are well written and they seem to be more realistic even though there are clearly some based in fantasy or alternate realities. There are now a few WebToons that have been adapted as anime through a partnership with CrunchyRoll. Some of the most popular WebToons include The God of High School, Tower of God, Noblesse and Lore Olympus.
Now for my picks, I will say I am heavy in the romance category. Most of my favorite WebToons are some kind of romantic story. Most Webtoons are updated on a weekly basis or twice a month. Usually the creator will upload multiple chapters and you can access them by paying 5 coins per extra chapter. I think it’s pretty reasonable considering some of the other competing apps and their paywalls. I like to stick in the not spending more than a $1 or 2 a day if I can help it. Based on what I read, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are when the most chapters hit. I love getting that Webtoon notification letting me know it’s time to read again!
While I can keep raving about the platform I want to shout out a couple of my favorite Webtoons that I’m currently reading. I don’t want to talk about too many of them as I will have a dedicated post about ALL of my favorites. There won’t be any spoilers either as I will give you a more detailed review in the coming articles.
First up is It’s a Good Day to be a Dog. So this is one of the purest love stories I have ever read. This was one I kind of found randomly and started to read it. And my goodness it was such a great decision. The story and art is by creator Lee Hey and there’s about 90 or so episodes/chapters. I will say this is still the only Webtoon that has made me cry. And I mean like ugly cry. It can be angsty at times, but in the end it is well worth it. And you’ll just have to read it to see where the dog part comes in ;-). The main character, Hana, is so relatable and down to Earth. I love how she handles her problems while also thinking about who she will be affecting. It’s worth a read for sure if you are a romantic.
The next Webtoon I recommend is Ghost Wife by Saejung. It is about a teenage girl who was living a normal life but she sees different monsters and creatures. It all comes to a head when she meets a ghost demon and he makes her his fiance! This one was a bit of a slow burn. I didn’t really know if I was going to like it, but the characters enjoyable. I like the MC and her love interests. There’s a bit of a love triangle with lots of MC getting saved, but also kind of developing her own type of power? It has vibes like Ancient Magnus Bride just without a lot of the whimsical and fairy elements. It’s definitely for you if you like the creepy aspects of stories.
Webtoons is a great place to escape to if you ever need a break from the troubles of life. I want to also encourage any future creator or artist out there that if you are thinking about starting a webtoon do it. No, seriously do it! And then come and leave your title! I literally live on Webtoons and will take the time to read your story. Even if you think you’ll only do it for a hobby, I encourage you to do it. It takes a lot of bravery to put yourself out there. I mean it took me a whole year before I was comfortable enough to start blogging. If you’re thinking about trying it out, go for it. And you Nerd Lighters be sure to tell me what webtoon you’re currently reading!
See you guys tomorrow! Peace!
