Welcome back to NerdLight guys! Today I’m listing the top Lightning Users in anime. These choices are solely based on the anime I’ve watched. So if you don’t see your favorite character on the list or you think I’ve forgotten an important one, let me know in the comments! I will also be including both heroes and villains, with one from each main franchise. Time to strike!
10. Hei (Darker Than Black)
Coming in at number 10 is Hei. Hei is apart of a race called Contractors that have developed special abilities. He also is with a group called the Syndicate whose focus is to eradicate the contractors. Hei develops powers of electricity after the events of Heavens Gate and the disappearance of his sister. His contractor abilities are molecular electricity manipulation. He cannot conduct electricity through the air or through concrete, but has the ability to discharge large amounts through a proper medium. He uses different tools to help him in his missions. His tools of choice are a knife and a wire he uses as a whip on occasions.
9. Gilthunder (The Seven Deadly Sins)
Next is Gilthunder one of the most powerful Holy Knights from the Seven Deadly Sins. His lightning magic gives him the ability to manipulate lightning. When we first meet Gilthunder we see his awesome strength as he sticks his sword in the ground sealing the town of Bernia’s water supply. This was due to a child sticking a bug in his drink. Once the sword was removed, Gilthunder is informed that is was a child that removed it. Deciding to test whether it was an accident, he borrows a spear and imbeds his lightning magic in it. He then approximates the location and hurls it to Bernia, having little care for the inhabitats as it would have destroyed the town in Meliodias was not present to catch it. Thunderbolt allows Gilthunder versatility and agility in his move set. Imbuing a weapon with his lightning greatly increases his power allowing him to discharge large amounts from his body. He also has an ability to control weather to an extent of summoning large lightning storms.
8. Kaminari (My Hero Academia)
Denki Kaminari is the lightning quirk user in My Hero. Along with his other classmates of calls 1-A he has dreams of becoming a Pro-Hero. His Pro-Hero name is ChargeBolt and his quirk is Electrification. While his quirk is not used for many combat abilities, is a great asset for close-ranged combat. The Electrification quirk allows Denki to encompass himself with electricity. He does not have control over how much he emits his energy. He can do it over short distances with enough wattage to take out enemies by paralyzing or knocking them out. This can cause trouble for his allies as he has not yet mastered how to avoid shocking them in battle if they get too close. He also has the ability to absorb other electricity or lightning attacks.
7. Enel/Eneru (One Piece)
Enel was a formidable enemy for Luffy in his quest to become the Pirate King. He is the self-proclaimed “Sky God” of Skypeia. He eats the Devil Fruit called Goro Goro no Mi or the Rumble-Rumble fruit. This fruit allows the user to have full control over lightning. This includes being able to transform, control and create electricity. This power allows Enel to also control the voltage output, the maximum being recorded at 200 million. Due to him being a Logia-type, he can transform into lightning letting almost all physical attacks phase through him. Anyone who comes into contact with him in this form can be electrocuted. He can also merge into metals to help with transportation or defense. Through his manipulation of electromagnetism he is able to pick up on the electrical sound waves in the air, listening to everyone’s conversations and thoughts in all of Skypiea. Enel’s Devil Fruit is regarded as one of the strongest making him practically invincible.
6. Laxus Dreyar(Fairy Tail)
Laxus Dreyar is a S-class mage of the Fairy Tail guild. He is the grandson of Fairy Tail’s guildmaster Makarov Dreyar. He is a lightning magic user with Lightning Dragon Slayer magic. He can produce and manipulate electricity at will and can attack both at long and close range combat. He can generate lightning from his body in multiple directions/areas. This is used to propel himself around the battlefield gaining momentum. He can also use this ability to make his melee deadlier. The brightness of his lightning can blind his enemies as he transforms his body into electricity like previously mentioned Enel. Like Enel, Laxus can avoid enemies and attacks as it passes through his body.
5. Zenitsu Agatsuma(Demon Slayer)
Zenitsu is one of the protagonists of Demon Slayer. He is one of the newly recruited demon slayers who joins main protagonist Tanjiro. Zenitsu is not a particular confident character, but his loyalty is unmatched. On top of this he has mastered his Thunder Breathing. Unlike other breathing styles there are only 2 forms to Thunder Breathing that Zenitsu knows. He mastered the first form, taught by its former master Jigoro Kuwajima. Because of Zenitsu’s severe lack of confidence he could only master the first form, but he develops it to suit his needs. During his first form there is Thunderclap and Flash with is a single dash with slashes as he bounds with incredible speed towards his opponents. He further develops this move by making it Six fold and then Eight fold. He develops one more addition to the Thunderclap and Flash, Godspeed. This move allows Zenitsu to further his speed. It’s so strong he can only use it twice a day. Zenitsu finally gets strong enough and develops the his own 7th form: Honoikazuchi Nokami. This move combined with Godspeed is Zenitsu at his fastest. It produces a dragon-like creature that breathes fire and thunder. While Zenitsu may not be the most confident of lightning users, he is strong when it counts.
4. Lambo (Reborn)
Lambo is a 5 year old hitman from the Bovino Family. He joins the Vongola family as the 10th generation’s lightning guardian. As a 5 year old he is pretty annoying and cries easily. He has an ability to appear as a 15 year old and a 25 year old through his 10 year bazooka, although he can only do this for 5 minutes respectively. Lambo tends to do this when he loses his cool switching to his 15 year old self. He has different lightning abilities depending on his age. Because he’s been shocked by lightning so many times, he can pass through it. As Adult-Lambo(15 yr old version) he can summon lightning to store in his horns(Thunder Set) to gain energy to be discharged (Elettrico Cornata). This is a short-ranged attack, but 25 year old Lambo can extend it. Adult Lambo also has a unique ability where he can melt down iron sand and mold it to produce projectiles. He also combines this move and his Lightning Flame called the Ferro Corna Elettro Shock.
3. Luck Voltia (Black Clover)
Luck is a Magic Knight and a member of the Black Bull and Royal Knight squads. He, like most lightning users, can manipulate lightning. With his creation magic he can form various objects with lightning. He tends to favor his Thunder God boots and Thunder God gloves. He can also use mana to manipulate real lightning. Like other magic users in the Black Bulls, he can compound his magic in making combo moves. One example is the Flame-Lightning Explosive Cannon which is his combo with Magma.
2. Killua Zoldyck (Hunter x Hunter)
Killua is a Pro-Hunter and an assasin from the famous assassin family the Zoldycks. We meet Killua on Gon’s quest to become a Pro-Hunter. He is the deuteragonist of the story as we watch him deal with his family issues. Killua has many abilities due to being a Hunter and an assassin. His lightning powers however are based in his Nen. He can alter his aura to resemble electricity. He can perform both short and long ranged attacks embedding his aura through his yo-yos. He can also throw it like a lightning strike. He has a similar move like Zenitsu called Godspeed, which dramatically alters his speed. Unlike Kaminari, Killua has the ability to control the voltage of the electricity discharging from his body. If an ally is touching him, they will only feel a mild sting. Enemies can be electrocuted. In order for Killua to use his electric aura, he needs to “charge” himself by usually charging himself or holding onto a plug.
- Kakashi Hatake (Naruto/Naruto Shippuden)
A legendary ninja with too many feats to count. I will need another whole article to talk about all of Kakashi’s powers and abilities. For this article, we are just going to focus on his Lightning Release. Kakashi has always had a natural affinity toward the Lightning Release since he was a genin. He honed and developed different attacks to serve his style. He can channel it into weapons and control lightening hounds. He can also produce lightening clones that can paralyze enemies on contact and has the ability to cut through a lightning strike earning the name Lightning Cutter. In series he develops a new technique called purple electricity. Purple electricity is so powerful that Kakashi can remove a target’s explosive vest. He also demonstrates astounding control as he can do this without setting off the explosion. He also built up enough chakra to emit enough purple electricity to induce rain clouds.
