What’s up everyone! Level_Z0r0 here, and I am back with my quick review of God is High school!
For those that don’t know God of High School is a anime that is originally a Webtoon made by Yongje Park. Crunchyroll has picked up this webtooon and a few others in making new anime content for the platform. As a avid WebToon user I was super excited to see them pick different WebToons to make into anime. So here’s my review of the show so far!
Jin is a cool MC so far
I love Jin! So far we know that he’s super strong. I talking OP kind of strong. He did have some One Punch Man moments during this tournament, but I loved it all. He also strikes me as a Naruto/Asta/Midoriya character who will go to bat for his friends, no matter how long he’s known them. While he fits most of the characteristics for a typical Shonen MC, I am really drawn to his personality.
Fighting styles
So I’ve been watching shonen/fighting anime for a while now, so I’ve seen a LOT of different styles. There’s an emphasis on Tae Kwon Do, but the one that caught my eye was from character Baek Seung-Chul. He uses a bat in the tournament and is demolishing people. Not to mention we have to wonder what’s happening with Jin and his powers.
Pacing
Because this is adapted from a WebToon, I was curious to see how the pacing was going to be for this story. I’m happy to report that the story is progressing quickly. Going back and reading through the episodes it’s clear that there are plenty of content for an anime episode. I’m also glad the show is keeping to the source material so closely. Currently The God of High School has 478 episodes, and continuing. There’s plenty of material to keep the show going for the long term.
Friendship Chemistry between Jin, Mira, and Dawei
These three!! My gosh I love them! The chemistry between them is so new and exciting. It’s really awesome to see how much they care for each other just from meeting in the tournament. There are simple moments that show how much they’ve already come to trust one another and it’s so heart-warming to me. It’s clear from the start that these three are going to go through some hardships and will have to rely on each other. That being said, I am happy at the resoultion of a particular conflict during the tournament #iykyk. I won’t give any spoilers, but it is the fight to watch so far in the show. It only lasts an episode but it’s my favorite fight of the series. I say this knowing the Jin has had another pretty difficult fight in episode 2.
We know there’s something sinister going on with the creators of the tournament and I can’t wait to see more revealed as the show progresses. It’s really hard to not go and read what’s going to happen in the WebToons version, but I’d like to enjoy this one with no prior knowledge.
Keep up with the show over on Crunchyroll or the comic WebToons! Are you guys liking The God of High School? Let me know in the comments!
