Takt Op. Destiny Review

Hey Nerds!

I have just finished watching all 6 episodes of the new anime called takt. op Destiny and I’m ready to share my thoughts!

Okay so let me give you a quick summary of the anime. In our world, the year is 2047 and Takt, Cosette and Anna are on their way to New York to the Symphonica. They are in a world where music no longer exists due to the arrival of D2s, monsters that emerged from what they called the Black Meteorite. The only way to fight these powerful enemies is through Musicarts, a human weapon that is controlled by their partners called Maestros. The Maestros or Conductors use a conducting wand to lead the Musicarts in defeating the D2s. Fun fact, this is also a mobile game. I may do a review on this in the future as well.

Firstly I want to talk about the animation. The animation is pretty similar to most anime and is co-produced by Madhouse and MAPPA. These are well known animation companies producing shows like One-Punch Man, Hunter x Hunter, and Jujustu Kaisen. My favorite animation part of the episodes that I’ve seen was the history of the Harmonia and the D2. It was made like a children’s story and told in detail what transpired from the year of 2000 to 2020. I thought it did a good job of giving a brief history of what led to the life of the present. The fights are vibrant and to me, feels like you’re seeing music as a weapon source. What I mean is that I can feel the conductors harmonizing with their Musicarts. It’s almost if they are dancing with their fighting skills. It cool to see what it would be like to fight with music.

Next I love the outfits/designs of the characters, specifically the Musicarts. I love Cosette’s outfit design. I believe there is some symbolism as to why her outfit is red, like blood red. I don’t know if it’s because of how she transforms, but it is a deep blood red. There’s also a change with their eyes. Cosette’s eyes are a bluish teal and she has red eye liner that matches her outfit. Her eyes don’t change once she is out of her transformation, but Takt’s eyes matches hers while he is conducting. This is to show that they are in sync with each other. We’ve only seen 4 other Musicarts and their character designs are just as interesting. Besides Cosette, there’s one other Musicart I’m intrigued by and that’s Valkyrie. I like how much of a Valkyrie her character design embodies, it’s definitely giving homage to the song she’s named after “Die Walküre”.

Speaking of names, and this is a minor spoiler, but I like how the Musicarts get their names. Cosette’s name is actually Destiny as she is derived from Symphony No. 5 Destiny. It’s not yet known how their names get chosen or how it is connected to their conductor. It seems Destiny’s name is tied closely to Takt and the relationship he had with Cosette. I can’t quite figure out the other Musicarts we’ve met like Titan and Hell. Valkyrie was pretty easy as it is a very popular classical piece as is Symphony No. 5. I like the name Takt as well. I really like its uniqueness for a main character. Also so far I like the story. I’m interested in seeing more developments as I don’t know if we have another enemy besides the D2 and we don’t know if there’s someone else controlling them. I’m interested in learning more about the harmonica stones that help defeat the D2s and why they both ended up on Earth.

After watching each episode I am convinced the world would royally suck with no music. Can you imagine that from 2020 to 2047 people have had to basically erase music from all parts of their lives. No jingles, no songs, just nothing. In the show there’s an episode where Takt finds a speakeasy for music. It has to be so deep underground so the D2s can’t hear it and come attack. We don’t know why the D2s hate music, but man I don’t know how I would survive in a world like that. Music literally gives life. I think that may be part of the reason the D2s hate it so much. Music can bring life, and envoke strong emotions. Maybe the D2 can’t handle the emotions music brings. Especially if we’re talking about classical music. You can be taken on a literal journey and feel all the emotions just within one song. I loved how the show is incorporating real songs that have made impacts on my life over the years. Being a musician, even one who hasn’t played in years, is a core part of me. Music is tied to my soul. I would be hopeless without music. So for this one I will give it 5 out of 5 Nerds.
