MeChat Mobile Game Review

Hey Nerds!

So as you guys know I dabble in mobile gaming with a preference for otome games. Since I tend to play different otome games I decided to try out one based on a dating app. This game is called MeChat where you swipe right to profiles you find interesting. Full disclaimer I’ve never played a game like this nor have I ever used a dating app like Tinder. I was already with my guy when this got popular when I was in college. So safe to say I had some expectations of that game but I was really going on blind.

First off I really enjoyed the colors and the animations. It’s not a whole lot which was fine. Most otome games have few animations or is very limited. So it didn’t bother me with a lack of movement from the characters. I also really loved the character designs of each match/profile. The creators really took time to design each person with their own little backstory. Overall the game is very pleasing to the eye and would definitely be eye-catching to those who enjoy these kinds of dating apps.

Now here are my concerns haha. So I’m not quite sure the purpose of the game. Like I understand that you swipe right for profiles you hope to match and then you chat with them. As you chat with them your love level goes up. So I’m not a fan of having to unlock like every picture that’s sent through with gems. It’s like everything you need to unlock has a gem price of more than the cheapest option to buy for gems. Most pictures and voice messages are 24 gems and up. And that’s a little pricey when your lowest options for gems is 22 per 1.86 with tax at .13 it’s basically $2 for 22 gems. And I know the dating is a lot different now, but I’m not quite sure what the point would be if I get the max level for each match I make. I’ve only just stared playing so I don’t really know what the “end of the game” would look like, but right now I’m not sure of my objective. And maybe there is no objective since it’s a pretty casual game that mimics casual dating. I just know I’m no into spending all my coins on in game currency.

Also for my saved and sanctified peeps, this probably ain’t the game for you haha. It is hits the casual hooking up part very hard especially depending on who you match with. There is a romance element for some of the profiles, but you gotta work for it. It is way easier to “hookup” with a match then to seriously date them. I do like the dating function where you can go on dates with your matches. The backgrounds are cool and so far the dates are pretty will though out. I like that part of it but again it can get sexual pretty fast so just be away of the choices you choose if you wan to try to avoid those kind of situations. And because is this a Nerd Light post if I don’t mention it, but there’s not a lot of Black characters male or female. And all these people are pretty so freaking pretty and attractive. I know it’s a game but they are really trying to make it seem like you’re only matching with gorgeous people.

Overall the game is alright. I mean I’m ashamed at how much money I’ve put into it haha. But it’s cool. I want to compare it to one of the other mobile games called LoveLink. Maybe I’ll download that one in the next couple of days so I can compare the two. Do you guys like games like this? Let me know in the comments and keep nerding out!
