What’s up Nerds!
It’s the last week of November and the last week of the #Nowisthetime challenge! This week is all about cozy games so let’s get into it with a demo review.
This cozy game is called Spirittea. You are an aspiring writer looking to find some inspiration for your newest project. You arrive in a faraway town to your home away from home.
Here in this town you’ll meet the townsfolk and learn there may be some supernatural beings right among the midst of the peaceful living. Is this town peaceful or do the spirits here have a different story to tell?
Alright so have I gotten your attention yet? This game was so cozy. I mean it’s giving Stardew Valley plus tea and bathhouses. Of course it really wouldn’t be a cozy if there wasn’t any customization. So you start off by customizing your character. You do the basics: skin tone, hair, clothes, etc. You also pick the name of the town you’re moving to right off the bat. Which if you’re similar to me can be stressful because I don’t like naming things off the fly. But the controls where easy to go back and edit. After you finish customizing you then get to get on a bus and ride to your new destination!
Once you arrive a nice older lady of the town named Miko gets you all settled in for your next day. You’ll get to practice a few if the buttons to interact with items near you. The day you’re introduced to another townsperson and she’ll take you get a desk and meet more people. You’ll have your first interaction with a spirit right in your house, but you can’t really do any interacting with it yet.
After you’ve met all the people in the town, you’ll go and visit Tifa to get some free tea leaves. After you brew some tea, you’ll see your very first spirit, Wonyan. He’ll give you the run down for the town and lead you to the bathhouse. He’ll insist you are the one who will restore it and help the spirits in the town that are in need. The rest of the demo is Wonyan showing you how to run the bathhouse .
I really enjoyed playing the demo. If I had any complaint it would be that the demo is too short. However it does a great job teaching you the game mechanics and keeping you entertained even though it’s a demo. A definite highlight of the game is the music. I absolutely loved the music and how fitting it is. You would think that because the setting is more rural you’d have music similar to Stardew or Coral Island. But no this music is modern and feels like it fits right in to what a town would actually play in present day. I also find running a bathhouse so intriguing. Based on the title I was inspecting a game more tea based but I actually really like that it didn’t go in that direction. My only recommendation would be for the demo to allow players to play two days of running the bathhouse. There’s a lot of moving pieces so two days would allow players enough time to decide whether they would purchase the game or not.
For this demo I give it 4 Nerd Light stars out of 5! I’m only docking one star for how short it was! Other than that I loved it and would highly recommend for your next cozy game purchase.
That’s all I got for you today, keep nerding out and see you soon!
