What’s up Nerds!
Today’s cozy game demo is all about coffee. Coffee talks is on the more mature side of cozy gaming but it was still pretty enjoyable.
You run a coffee shop that’s only open at night into the wee hours of the morning. The only one of its kind settled in Seattle of 2020. Your job is to make coffee and provide conversation to many different characters that come by. There are all kinds of people that come through including non-human. What kinds of interesting conversations are waiting for you and your brew?
So let’s start with the positives. I can already tell this is going to have fantastic storytelling. The demo did not disappoint in providing just enough of the storyline to keep me engaged and wanting more. The way these stories are presented over their favorite cup of coffee is both quaint and satisfying. I already know I’m going to become attached to these characters and want to help them with all their problems. This goes into the next positive the characterization. We meet three characters in the demo: Freya a human, Lua a succubus and Baileys an elf. So far I can tell you that Freya is going to be the comedic relief from the darker storylines you may come across. You don’t even get to meet anyone else, but I already want to see what’s going to happen with Lua and Baileys as they work through their differences in their relationship.
The game mechanics are fairly simple. The graphics are smooth and quiet a perfect fit for a coffee shop. The ambience is enchanting with lofi music setting up the coffee place to be the best for you to share your burdens on the barista. I also enjoy seeing the coffee after it’s prepared for a customer. You are about to see their reaction and whether you sufficiently created their choice of coffee.
The only negative I would say besides the demo being really short, would be the game mechanics for making latte art. The first time Baileys asked for latte art I didn’t do it because I pressed the wrong button. The second time I did the latte art but the controls were too confusing. I made the biggest glob and he laughed at me when he got his cup and called it cute. I would definitely need to practice more to get my latte art to passable. But besides this, there’s not much more to say about the demo.
Overall I enjoyed the game and I definitely want to buy it after completing the demo. I want to meet more characters and hear all about their love lives, work lives, and how they’re dealing with life. Today Coffee Talks gets 4 Nerd Light stars out of 5.
That’s all for today. Keep nerding out and see you tomorrow.
